Announcements

TODAY - Letters to Senators Nelson and Johanns and Congressman Fortenberry asking for their support of the TRADE (Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment) Act are on the Economic Justice table in the fellowship hall.  Please take the time to sign a letter. (Information on the TRADE Act is also available if you would like to write your own letter.) This act will set standards that help provide stable jobs, environmental protections, public health, and poverty reduction in both the U.S. and with our trading partners.  Check our church website for more information.

PLEASE let David Orr or Rhonda Brubacher know if you would like to join a FMC group that will deliver the letters to their offices this coming week.

HEY JUNIOR YOUTH! - You won't want to miss

the picnic at Holmes Lake Park.  It's on Wednesday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m.  Don't forget to bring your parents and come for games, food, and fun!

SIGN UP TO SERVE - Please consider serving supper at the People's City Mission.  Small groups, families, or individuals are encouraged to sign up for this wonderful experience.  The sign-up sheet is on the church bulletin board and servers are needed the first Sunday of each month.  Thanks.

DIRECTORY CHANGE - Please change Rick and Wanda Stauffer's email addresses in your church directory.

SMALL INVESTORS - MMA has introduced a new product that offers convenient diversification for small investors.  Talk to your MMA counselor about ways this product benefits others.

ROOFING HELP NEEDED - Plans are being made to roof Tom Hoffman's house on Friday, May 21 late afternoon and evening and Saturday, May 22.  We will tear off and paper on Friday and shingle on Saturday.  Please let Wade Thiessen know ASAP if you can help.  Thanks.

POTLUCK AND FAREWELL - Put Sunday, May 23 on your calendars. We will have a potluck lunch and a farewell for Marlin and Betta Kym.  There will be no potluck on the usual third Sunday in May.

BIRTHDAY OFFERING NEXT WEEK - We will celebrate all the May birthdays and anniversaries next Sunday.  A special offering will be held during the worship service with all the money being used to support our three Indian students in their education.

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - During the current recession the need for counseling services in our community has increased as families and individuals deal with unemployment, bankruptcy, foreclosures, furloughs and poverty.  Since 1987, Samaritan Counseling Center has been providing holistic counseling services that integrate emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. Samaritan counselors understand the importance of faith and are able to help clients build upon their own faith in the healing process.  To learn more, visit the Center's web site at www.samaritancenter.com.

THE WALL OF ECONOMIC JUSTICE & INJUSTICE - Please bring items to put on the "wall" or set on the table in the fellowship hall. You can staple or pin items on or put them in the box on the table and someone will post them. The wall will be developing and changing over time to reflect the interests and "finds" of the congregation, so don't be shy: bring in pictures, poems, jokes, articles, websites, etc.

PROFESSIONAL MENTORING PROGRAM - Can you imagine going to another country where your education and work experience mean nothing?  Many refugees face this problem when they come to the United States.  By serving as a Professional Mentor you can enrich your perspective on another culture while making a different in someone's life.

The program aims to help New American professionals in setting and progressing along a realistic career path through cultural and career mentoring.  The goal is to get 100% of our participants engaged in the profession of their choice as quickly as possible.  The mentor would have to commit 4-5 hours a month.  We currently need a mentor in the journalism field and two mentors in the IT/computer programming field.  We need dedicated mentors who can guide these individuals in the right direction through networking, job shadowing, career and education advice, etc.

If you are interested, please contact me. Thank you!
