ENVIRONMENT & SPIRITUALITY -
Daniel Deffenbaugh, author of Learning the Language of the Fields: Tilling
& Keeping as Christian Vocation, will speak at First Mennonite Church
on Sunday, February 28 at 1:30 p.m.
Deffenbaugh, a professor of religion at Hastings College, suggests
that "our backyards- our gardens- can also serve as our sanctuaries, places
where we can, through our faithful tilling and keeping, gain new insights
into the nature of divine grace, insights that might eventually influence the
way we come into God's presence on Sunday mornings." Everyone is invited to this free event,
organized by Common Good Farm. A
fellowship time will follow.
THANK YOU - Thanks to all who help bring snacks for
the 10:30 fellowship time each Sunday. The current list covers
6 months' worth of Sundays, so we would like to just recycle that list for
the next 6 months. Please let Wanda Stauffer know if you do not
want to be on the list, if you would like to be added to the
list, or if you would rather share a Sunday with someone.
Otherwise we will recycle the current list starting in March.
POTLUCK MEAL NEXT SUNDAY - We will have a fellowship meal
next Sunday after the worship service.
Join us for great food and fellowship. Please bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share.
BIRTHDAY OFFERING NEXT SUNDAY - If you have a birthday or
anniversary in February, you can help support the education of three students
in India. We will take an offering
during next Sunday's worship service.
THANK YOU - Thank you to our many First Mennonite Faith
Family Friends who remembered me during my week in the hospital, with
prayers, visits, phone calls, flowers and many expressions of care and
concern. My home post-op recovery is going well. May God continue
to bless the many ways you continue to reach out to those with special
needs. Love You All!

SOUPER BOWL DONATIONS - Thank you so much from the High
School Youth Group for your donations last Sunday. We were able to give $318 to the Northeast Food Pantry of
Lincoln.
ANOTHER THANK YOU - MCC is deeply grateful for the
overwhelming response to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti. MCC is
developing a multi-year response to utilize the over $8 million that has been
donated. Kurt Hildebrand, an MCC worker in Haiti, recently said,
"Haitians were accustomed to being considered by the outside world as a
hopeless basket case that wasn't worth the effort. I want us to all think and pray very hard about how we can
sustain the interest." MCC is committed to working in Haiti long after
the media spotlight fades as it has in other places; New Orleans, Sudan,
Indonesia, etc. However, due to a
decrease in general giving over the past two years MCC has been forced to
make cuts to vital programming around the world. Please consider giving a
"where needed most" donation to support MCC's work. Send checks to MCC
Central States, PO Box 235, North Newton, KS 67117 or at mcc.org.
HAITI RELIEF DONATIONS HERE - Mennonite Central Committee
(MCC) is asking for 20,000 relief kits, 25,000 heavy comforters (twin size
preferred), and 10,000 flat sheets (double, queen, or king in light colors)
by February 28. All items should be
new. Bring donations to the church
and consider sharing this request with friends and co-workers. For complete information, go to www.fmclincoln.org/haitiearthquakeresponse. For up-to-date information on MCC's work
in Haiti please visit the following link: mcc.org/haitiearthquake/news/onsite.
CIRCLE OF GRACE - During Sunday School, our children and
young people will be participating in the Circle of Grace program on February
14, 21, and 28 (and March 14 for Junior Youth and Youth). Circle of Grace is
a faith-based program to educate and empower children and young people to
actively participate in a safe environment for themselves and others. If you
have questions, contact Jeanette Harder or Wanda Stauffer.
