Jim and Carol arrived in Recife, Brazil on Sat. January 23rd, 2010. We spent a couple of days on the beach at Boa Viagem. On Monday we went to the MCC office which is comprised of a house a yard and another building which houses the offices. We were greeted with a smile and a big hug from Helen Davis the new Country Representative there. We ate a yummy lunch with the workers.
Then we bussed out to another town further inland, Surubim. Jim lived in Surubim and also in a small rural community outside of the city of Surubim. We stayed with a mother of a friend of ours and went to visit other friends in the rural community of Sitio Montado. The weather is hot, sometimes humid, sometimes not.
We then bussed to Bonito, where another friend lives. Kelly and her husband Ron Suhan and children are from Canada and Brazil. They just returned to their home in Brazil after living in Canada for two years. Kelly's parents, Martin and Marion Penner lived and worked in Bonito the same time Jim was here in the late 1970's. Kelly spent most of her growing up years here. She has continued building relationships with the Brazil people and helping them to progress in many good ways.
We are back in the city of Recife. We stayed in the MCC house for the night. Helen took us out to eat and Jim talked to her about his time in MCC here.
We are enjoying the connections with people, eating the wonderful food, and drinking fresh fruit juices - acerola, pitanga, cashew, lemon, graviola..... Today we went to a store and bought lots of cashews to bring home! We are going soon to meet with the Habitat team at a hotel by the ocean!
Will write more another time. Warm blessings to all!
