WELCOME HESSTON - We welcome Hesston College men's
basketball coach, Dustin Galyon, who will be bringing the message this
morning. Dustin is a 2004 Hesston
graduate. In 2006 he earned a B.S.
from Eastern Mennonite University, where he majored in communications. Coach Galyon is also a Hesston admissions
counselor. His territory includes
Nebraska. Also contributing to the
service are members of the men's basketball team and Dallas Stutzman,
Director of Alumni and Church Relations and Assistant Basketball Coach.
POTLUCK MEAL TODAY - Everyone is invited to a potluck
lunch after today's worship service.
Join us for good food and fellowship.
DONATIONS FOR HAITI - Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is
responding to the earthquake that struck Haiti January 12, the largest in
more than 200 years. MCC's
multimillion-dollar, multiyear response will provide immediate shelter,
water, food and emergency supplies and trauma healing and other long-term
recovery needs. You can help through
prayer for the people of Haiti and by donating to MCC's Haiti Earthquake
appeal. Donations may be made through the offering at any time. Designate your gift "Haiti." Or you can give online at
donate.mcc.org/project/haiti-earthquake, by check to the MCC office nearest
you, or by phone toll free: 1-888-563-4676.
HAITI RELIEF DONATIONS HERE - In addition to cash
contributions, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) has requested 20,000 relief
kits, 10,000 heavy comforters (twin size preferred), and 10,000 flat sheets
(double, queen, or king in light colors) before February 28. All items should be new. Complete information is at www.fmclincoln.org/haitiearthquakeresponse. Bring donations to the church and consider
sharing this request with friends and co-workers.
JUNIOR YOUTH ROLLER SKATING - The Junior Youth Roller
Skating Party (grades 6-8) is scheduled for this Wednesday, January 27 at
6:30 p.m. at Skate Zone. See you
there!
IT'S "SOUPER" BOWL
TIME! - The high school youth group will be collecting money donations for
the local food pantry on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7. This is a national
event that happens all over the country, and all of our donations go to our
local Food Pantry. So be thinking ahead, and prepare to be a
Souper Giver on Super Bowl Sunday!
BIRTHDAY OFFERING NEXT SUNDAY - We will celebrate all the
January birthdays and anniversaries next Sunday. If you are celebrating this month you are invited to contribute
to the offering which is used to support the education of three students in
India.
WOMEN'S RETREAT COMING - Come for a wonderful retreat with
friends. The Annual Mennonite Women's Retreat is on Saturday and Sunday, March 6 & 7. The retreat is at the Aurora Leadership
Center and the theme is "Prayer: A
Lifestyle and a Legacy". Cindy
Hostetler is the speaker and will help us learn to Pray More and Say
Less! Also, Esmerelda has been
invited, and she is always good for a joke or two. Barb Schlegel has the registration forms which are due on
February 1.
NEED SERVERS - Please consider if you or your small group
can sign up to serve meals at the People's City Mission the first Sunday
evening of the month. Registration is
on the church bulletin board. It's a
great experience for everyone from middle school through adult.
BRINGING MEALS - Meals for members in need, is one way we
care for each other here at FMC. Helping Hands coordinates meals
for people with health issues, at the arrival of new babies, during times of
sorrow, or any time we hear of a need. We would like to be able to call
on YOU for help with this service. If you don't cook, don't worry, there
are other options. People love
getting pizza, ortakeout, orgiftcertificates. You can also pair up with someone to share
the responsibility of a meal, or bring your food items ahead of time, ready
for the freezer, and we will make sure they get delivered. Let Barb
Schlegel (488-7761) or Wanda Stauffer (890-4691) know if you can help. Thank you for considering how you can
help. ---Helping Hands Committee
MCC CENTRAL STATES
- Everyone is welcome to join us at Rainbow Mennonite Church in Kansas
City, Kansas, for our annual meeting and worship service on Saturday,
February 27 at 7:00 p.m. The program will celebrate what we call the
"New Wine", MCC's new statement of identity, approaches,
priorities, values and convictions.
HABITAT BRAZIL - Jim Janzen and Carol Knieriem left on
Friday for Feria Nova, Brazil, where they will help build a Habitat for
Humanity House. Thanks to everyone
who donated cash, tools, and toys.
Keep Jim and Carol in your prayers.
The First Mennonite Mission Travel Fund will pay $3,000 to help with
their expenses. Contributions to
replenish the fund are welcome and may be made at any time. Designate gifts "Mission Travel."
ANNUAL MEETING - At the January 13 annual meeting our
treasurer, Tim Balzer, reported that 2009 offerings slightly exceeded our
goal and that our building loan principal was reduced by $30,000. The budget adopted for 2010 includes a
$3,000 increase in giving to mission and service agencies and a total
increase of 6%. Complete minutes of
the meeting are posted on the bulletin board near the kitchen.
