DONATE HOUSEHOLD GOODS - Imagine you have "aged out" of
foster care, are starting over after living at the mission, or just arrived
as a refugee. You need everything.
Every year hundreds of people in
Lincoln have to set up housekeeping from scratch.
Outreach Commission, with tremendous help from Stan
Harder, is developing a "Virtual Warehouse," a private, password
protected, website. We will ask
you to list things you could donate: furniture, kitchen items, lamps, linens,
and anything else a new household might need. Donors will be asked to store their items until they are
selected by authorized agency staff members for people in need.
The website will be ready soon. For now, send an email listing items with a brief description
of each to david<AT>fmclincon<D0T>org. Feel free to attach a photo if you like.

MCC MINI AUCTION - First Mennonite Church in Beatrice will
have their annual Mini Auction today at 6:00 p.m. on West Highway 4 in
Beatrice. There will be lots of food and auction items to purchase and
enjoy. All proceeds go to the Nebraska MCC Relief Sale. You are
invited to enjoy an evening with friends from Beatrice.

ATTENTION ALL WOMEN!! SAVE THE DATE!! - The Nebraska
Mennonite Women's Retreat will be March 6 & 7, 2010 at the Leadership
Center in Aurora, Nebraska. This
year's speaker is Cindy Hostetler from Phoenix, Arizona who will be speaking
on the topic of prayer. We are
planning a wonderful weekend full of fun, relaxation, humor, and fellowship,
as well as worship and spiritual input from God's Word. Mark the date on your calendar and plan to
attend! Hope to see you there.
|
|
POTLUCK MEAL TODAY - Everyone is invited to stay for a
potluck meal today right after the worship service. There is always plenty of food, so join us!
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM - All middler children and junior youth
who would like to be in the Christmas program are asked to come to a planning
meeting with their parents immediately following the potluck this
afternoon. We will discuss the schedule of practices and confirm a time
and date for the program. A brief practice will be held immediately
following the meeting. We will dismiss by 2:00 p.m. at the latest.
GIFTS OF LOVE STORE - City Impact's Gifts of Love store is coming in
December. This is an opportunity for qualifying families to shop for
Christmas gifts at prices 70% off of retail. Here are two ways you can be
involved:
Volunteer to help. Dec. 8-15 there are opportunities to help with setting up
the store, helping parents and children shop, gift wrap, cashier (using a
calculator). We have 10 slots
reserved on Sat. Dec. 12, 2:30-5:00 pm, when parents shop, and 20 slots
Tues., Dec. 15, 5:30-8:00 pm, when kids shop. Let Wanda Stauffer know if you can help, or go to cityimpact.org to sign up for
times on other days.
Donate Gifts. Bring unwrapped items to the church by Dec. 6. We need gifts for
all ages, children and adult, especially teenagers. If possible, include the price, so they know how much to discount
each item. Don't have time to
shop? Donate money and City Impact
will do the shopping for you.
City Impact now meets at First Baptist Church, 1340 K
St.
CHRISTMAS BRUNCH -
All women and girls are invited to begin celebrating the Christmas
season by coming to the Women's Christmas Brunch. Set aside Saturday
morning, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. to come to the church for food, fun and
celebration. Bring a donation to help support the projects of the
Mennonite Women USA, projects that help women here and overseas to connect
with each other and with God.
THANK YOU - A big thank you for all the yams and
stuffing that you have donated for the People's City Mission.
|
|
THE BUDGET COMMITTEE - The Committee is looking for your
input as we begin preparations on the 2010 budget. If you have any
ideas or concerns about how the church should plan to use its financial
resources in 2010, please contact Tim Balzer with your
thoughts. If you want to make an anonymous suggestion, you can
leave a note in Tim's church mailbox. Please share your thoughts with
Tim by today.
COFFEE AND MORE - The First Mennonite Youth Group is proud
to offer fairly traded products from Equal Exchange to support youth group
activities and the youth group's National Conference trip. You can purchase these products in the
Fellowship Hall. Thanks for you support!
|
|
THE CHURCH AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Jeanette Harder
and a graduate student, Ryan Brennan, are looking at how the church welcomes
and includes people with disabilities. Please let Jeanette or Ryan know if
you would like to share in a discussion on this important topic. We will
gather during the Fellowship Meal today to talk.
