ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL - Want to build on the movie
"FireProof"? Then join the adult Sunday School class
reviewing questions and scriptures that will help build principles
for strong, God-centered, lifelong marriages. Class began this morning,
and you are still invited to come. Let's learn together as
we discuss "Fireproof Your Marriage."
|
|
ELECTRONIC DIRECTORY - Our new church directory is
available as an HTML file. Contact
Gerry Cooney for a copy.
|
|
GIFTS OF LOVE STORE - City Impact's Gifts of Love store is coming in
December. This is an opportunity for qualifying families to shop for
Christmas gifts at prices 70% off of retail. Here are two ways you can be
involved:
Volunteer to help. Dec. 8-15 there are opportunities to help with setting up
the store, helping parents and children shop, gift wrap, cashier (using a
calculator). We have 10 slots reserved
on Sat. Dec. 12, 2:30-5:00 pm, when parents shop, and 20 slots Tues., Dec.
15, 5:30-8:00 pm, when kids shop. Let
Wanda Stauffer know if you can help, or go to cityimpact.org to sign up for
times on other days.
Donate Gifts. Bring unwrapped items to the church by Dec. 6. We need gifts for
all ages, children and adult, especially teenagers. If possible, include the price, so they know how much to
discount each item. Don't have time
to shop? Donate money and City Impact
will do the shopping for you.
City Impact now meets at First Baptist Church, 1340 K
St.

|
SHARING FUND - Nurture Commission appreciates all
donations to the church's Sharing Fund.
Contributions may be made any time to Tim or through the morning
offering.
|
|
PCM THANKSGIVING - Our goal is to provide 300 boxes of
Stove Top Stuffing and 300 large cans of yams for Thanksgiving dinners to be
distributed to needy families by People's City Mission. As of November 2 we had received only
about 10% of our commitment, 25 cans of yams and 36 boxes of stuffing.
Donations may be left in the fellowship hall through next Sunday, November
15.
CIRCLE OF GRACE - We welcome Mary Beth Hanus, Victim
Assistance Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Omaha. She will speak about the Circle of Grace
child protection curriculum during our worship this morning and will lead a
training session this afternoon from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Teachers are urged to attend; parents are
welcome.
POTLUCK MEAL - All are welcome next Sunday to a potluck
lunch right after the worship service.
Please bring a main dish and a salad or dessert. We hope you can join us.
WHICH TOPIC? - Are you into wellness (exercise, healthy
eating, emotional and mental health, etc.) issues? How about "going green" (reducing our carbon footprint)? Maybe economic justice (fair trade, living
wage, advocacy for the poor) or financial stewardship (accountability to God
for our finances)? Would you like to focus more on the scriptures (in-depth
studies, how scriptures can and have made a difference in our lives, etc)?
Now is your opportunity to VOTE on the topics you are most
passionate about or would like to learn more about. In 2010 our congregation will focus on one of these
topics. Please vote today. Indicate the two topics you are
most interested in. Place your ballot
in the box in the fellowship hall.
|
|
THE BUDGET COMMITTEE - The Committee is looking for your
input as we begin preparations on the 2010 budget. If you have any
ideas or concerns about how the church should plan to use its financial
resources in 2010, please contact Tim Balzer with your thoughts. If you
want to make an anonymous suggestion, you can leave a note in Tim's church
mailbox. Please share your thoughts with Tim by next Sunday, November
15.

|
CHILDREN'S BOOKS FOR TELLING IN CHURCH - The latest
newsletter from the Western District Resource Library features two dozen
beautifully written and illustrated children's books that could be used for
children's time during worship, for Sunday School, or for home use. Themes include friendship, kindness,
outreach, generosity, praise, creation and more. Find it online
at: www.mennowdc.org/2009-11-CIO.pdf or
take a printed copy from beneath the mailboxes.
|
|
THE CHURCH AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Jeanette Harder
and a graduate student, Ryan Brennan, are looking at how the church welcomes
and includes people with disabilities. Please let Jeanette or Ryan know if
you would like to share in a discussion on this important topic. We will
gather during Fellowship Meal next week to talk.

|
MEAT CANNING - MCC Meat Canning will be held November 9
and 10 at the Milford Fire Hall.
Adult and youth help is appreciated any time during the two-day
period. Donations for the purchase of
turkey meat may be made through the offering and should be designated "Meat
Canning."
|
|
|
|
MCC MINI AUCTION - First Mennonite Church in Beatrice will
have their annual Mini Auction on Sunday Nov.15th, at 6:30 p.m., on West
Highway 4 in Beatrice. There will be lots of food and auction items to
purchase and enjoy. All proceeds go to the Nebraska MCC Relief
Sale. You are invited to enjoy an evening with friends from Beatrice.

|
MCC ASIA DISASTERS APPEAL INCREASES - In response
to the needs of flooding and earthquake survivors in Asia, Mennonite Central
Committee (MCC) is increasing its appeal for donations to $250,000. The
additional contributions will allow MCC and its partners to respond to
extensive flood damage in southern India and Cambodia and to provide
permanent housing for people in Indonesia, where earthquakes devastated
entire villages. Please donate by placing gifts designated "Asia
Disasters" in the offering or by sending checks to MCC Central States, PO Box
235, North Newton, KS, 67117 or online at donate.mcc.org.
|
|
BIRTHDAY OFFERING - Our birthday and anniversary offering
helps support the Vocational Training and Community Schools programs in
Calcutta, India through Mennonite Central Committee's Global Family
Program. Those with birthdays or
anniversaries in November are invited to help us meet our annual goal of
$900.
|
|
BOOK RETURN - Please return books from the Western
District Conference Resource Library as soon as possible.
|
|
DONATE HOUSEHOLD GOODS - Imagine you have "aged out" of
foster care, are starting over after living at the mission, or just arrived
as a refugee. You need everything.
Every year hundreds of people in
Lincoln have to set up housekeeping from scratch.
Outreach Commission, with tremendous help from Stan
Harder, is developing a "Virtual Warehouse," a private, password
protected, website. We will ask
you to list things you could donate: furniture, kitchen items, lamps, linens,
and anything else a new household might need. Donors will be asked to store their items until they are
selected by authorized agency staff members for people in need.
The website will be ready soon. For now, send an email listing items with a brief description
of each to david<AT>fmclincon<D0T>org. Feel free to attach a photo if that would
be helpful.
