Congregational Response

We welcome you as brothers and sisters in Christ, members of the Lord's body and of this congregation.

We make this covenant with you as we renew our own covenant with God:

to bear each others' burdens,

to assist in times of need,

to share our gifts and possessions,

to forgive as Christ has forgiven us,

to support each other in joy and sorrow,

and in all things to work for the common good,

thus making known Christ's presence among us

to the Glory of God.

As we unite with each other now, may we all be joined with Christ our Lord.

Announcements

BRIDAL SHOWER ANNOUNCEMENT - All women and girls are invited to a money tree bridal shower for Anne Yoder (and Tim Wiens) on Sunday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at First Mennonite Church.  Please come for food, fun and fellowship.

THANK YOU - Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and many other shows of support related to my recent surgery. It's amazing what a difference it makes to feel this sense of caring from the congregation. --Anita Breckbill

KEEP THE DATES OPEN! - Vacation Bible School for First Mennonite Church will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, July 15 and 16.  More information coming later.  Mark those calendars now so you can plan to attend or help!

SIGN UP TODAY FOR WOMEN'S TEA - Get your aprons ironed! (just kidding). All women and girls are invited to a brunch on Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the church.  If you have a favorite apron, bring it.  Sign up to attend by today on the bulletin board near the kitchen. There is also a sign-up sheet for those willing to bring food.  Feel free to invite a family member or friend and come join us for a morning of fun.

FAITH IN THE FUTURE - The wild stock market ups and downs may cause you to worry, but MMA (Mennonite Mutual Aid) investment managers remind people not to make financial choices based on emotion or panic, but based on one's financial objectives and long-term goals.

NO NURSERY ATTENDANT - We will not have anyone supervising our nursery during today's worship service.  However, parents may accompany their own children to the nursery anytime if they need it.  We'll resume our normal schedule next Sunday.

FOCUS ON PALESTINE - On Sunday, April 26, our focus will be on the plight of occupied Palestine.  Gordon Brubacher will bring the message during the worship service.

At noon a potluck will be held.  If you would like to bring a Palestinian dish, check the website soon for recipes.  Regular potluck fare is welcome, if you prefer.  Donations will be received to support the work of Christian Peacemaker Team member Jessica Frederick who serves in the Palestinian village of At-Tuani.  Those who would like to make an additional donation to have a dish prepared on their behalf may contact Anita Breckbill.

At 1:00 Jessica Frederick and Palestinians Issa and Fayruz Ismail will give a brief update.

CAMPUS DISCUSSION GROUP - The study of Philippians is complete and the UNL group will hold its last meeting of the semester tomorrow, April 13.  Students are invited to take a study break between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. and enjoy a complimentary "beverage of choice" from Caffina Café in the Nebraska Union.

BIRTHDAY OFFERING - Our monthly birthday and anniversary offering will be held on Sunday, April 19.
