Call to Worship
Leader:
We gather in this Lenten season to remember, repent, and
seek renewal.
People:
Creator God, open
our minds and hearts to your Spirit and help us to claim your promises.
Leader:
We see your movement through history: from destruction to
provision, from flood to foundation, from death to life.
People:
You are an active,
responsive God. We trust your
mysterious ways and rest in your mercy. AMEN.

Confession and Assurance
Psalm 25:1-10
Leader:
O Lord, I give my life to you.
People:
I trust in you, my God!
Leader:
Do not let me be disgraced,
People:
or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
Leader:
No one who
trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
People:
but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
Leader:
Show me the right path, O Lord;
People:
point out the road for me to follow.
Leader:
Lead me by your
truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.
People:
All day long I put my hope in you.
Leader:
Remember, O
Lord, your compassion and unfailing love,
People
which you have shown from long ages past.
Leader
Do not remember
the rebellious sins of my youth.
People
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for
you are merciful, O Lord.
Leader
The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the
proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.
The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness
all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.

Donation Drive for Foster Care
Closet at First Mennonite Church during March! Clean used items of
all sizes are needed: infant through teen sizes, dress clothes & casual
clothes, shoes & all other. Baby items also needed (blankets, etc.)
Remember also that lots of teens are adult size! Items not accepted are used
as undergarments. FCC also prefers modest clothing. Thank you for your
donations - they were thrilled with what we brought last time! If you have
questions, please contact Ruth Chantry or FCC Director Leigh Esau at
402.617.0667.
NOTE: Please leave
items on east side of Classroom #1. Donations accepted at FMC from March 1
through March 29, 2009. If you have a
very large quantity & wish to donate to FCC directly, please call FCC's
Leigh Esau directly & arrange a delivery time. Thanks much!
Foster CARE Closet:
is
a non-profit organization (501c3);
all donations are tax deductible. FCC
services all children in the state of Nebraska who are wards of the state.
All items in FCC are FREE to clients. FCC operates on donations from
volunteers & the community. FCC has a biblically-based mission to care
for wards of the state.
Want to help
deliver the donations to FCC? We'll be in need of several volunteers to
take donations to FCC (near Lincoln High) at the end of March. Let Ruth know
if you can deliver. Thanks!

The offering is an opportunity to meet this obligation together. The building offering will be in addition

their education.

PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT - Carly Jacobs, a colleague and friend
of Amanda Balzer and Mike Gruszczynski, will be at First Mennonite on Sunday,
March 8, seeking volunteers (19 and older) to participate in a research
project. She will be available before Sunday school, between Sunday school
and the worship service and after church. Carly (and Mike and Amanda) would
much appreciate your participation.
This project is for a class on Human Variation (ANTH 842)
offered through the Department of Anthropology at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln. Interviews with
adults in the Lincoln area are used to help evaluate and explore perceptions
of race and racial identity in the community at large. You will be asked 6 questions concerning
your ideas and opinions on race - there are no right or wrong answers to
these questions and you do not have to answer a question if you do not wish
to. The interview should be
relatively short (15-30 minutes at most) and your results will be completely
anonymous. There is no way to
identify individual responses to any of the questions. This research has been approved by the
Institutional Review Board at UNL and you will be provided with an informed
consent form at the time of your interview containing contact information for
the faculty members serving as the primary investigators on this project.
Thank you so much for your willingness to participate!
