Gathering

Prelude

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship

Leader:

We gather in this Lenten season to remember, repent, and seek renewal.

People:

Creator God, open our minds and hearts to your Spirit and help us to claim your promises.

Leader:

We see your movement through history: from destruction to provision, from flood to foundation, from death to life.

People:

You are an active, responsive God.  We trust your mysterious ways and rest in your mercy. AMEN.

Hymn

WB # 303

Come, gracious Spirit

Confession and Assurance

Psalm 25:1-10

Leader:

O Lord, I give my life to you.

People:

I trust in you, my God!

Leader:

Do not let me be disgraced,

People:

or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.

Leader:

No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,

People:

but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

Leader:

Show me the right path, O Lord;

People:

point out the road for me to follow.

Leader:

Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.

People:

All day long I put my hope in you.

Leader:

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love,

People

which you have shown from long ages past.

Leader

Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.

People

Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.

Leader

The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.  He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.

The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness

all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.

BUILDING OFFERING - Today we give thanks to God for the new space we enjoy with our first special building fund offering.  We are depending upon this offering to cover a little more than half of our mortgage payments for the first three months of the year, a total of $1,800.76.  The offering is an opportunity to meet this obligation together.  The building offering will be in addition to our regular tithes and offerings.  Contributions designated "building fund" are invited and may be made at any time.

WOMEN'S MOVIE MATINEE TODAY - All women are invited to meet at East Park Theaters, 66th and "O" St, today at 12:45 for a matinee movie followed by coffee and dessert at Panera Bread.

BAPTISM CLASS TODAY - The Baptism Exploration Group will meet today at 12:30 at church.

THANKS! - Thanks to the small groups that helped make school kits Wednesday.  We accomplished a lot.  If any person or small group would like to help finish them before the MCC sale, talk to Tammy Riedel.

BIRTHDAY OFFERING NEXT SUNDAY - If you have a March birthday or anniversary, you are invited to contribute to our birthday offering during next Sunday's worship service.  All the money is used to support three students in India in their education.

PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT - Carly Jacobs, a colleague and friend of Amanda Balzer and Mike Gruszczynski, will be at First Mennonite on Sunday, March 8, seeking volunteers (19 and older) to participate in a research project. She will be available before Sunday school, between Sunday school and the worship service and after church. Carly (and Mike and Amanda) would much appreciate your participation.

This project is for a class on Human Variation (ANTH 842) offered through the Department of Anthropology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Interviews with adults in the Lincoln area are used to help evaluate and explore perceptions of race and racial identity in the community at large.  You will be asked 6 questions concerning your ideas and opinions on race - there are no right or wrong answers to these questions and you do not have to answer a question if you do not wish to.  The interview should be relatively short (15-30 minutes at most) and your results will be completely anonymous.  There is no way to identify individual responses to any of the questions.  This research has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at UNL and you will be provided with an informed consent form at the time of your interview containing contact information for the faculty members serving as the primary investigators on this project.

Thank you so much for your willingness to participate!
