Call to Worship

Matthew 5:3-12

Leader:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

People:

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Leader:

Blessed are those who mourn,

People:

for they will be comforted.

Leader:

Blessed are the meek,

People:

for they will inherit the earth.

Leader:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

People:

for they will be filled.

Leader:

Blessed are the merciful,

People:

for they will receive mercy.

Leader:

Blessed are the pure in heart,

People:

for they will see God.

Leader:

Blessed are the peacemakers,

People:

for they will be called children of God.

Leader:

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,

People:

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Leader:

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

People:

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

FINANCIAL REPORT - At the January 14 congregational meeting, our treasurer, Tim Balzer, reported that offerings exceeded the budget again in 2008.  We are thankful for everyone's commitment.

We adopted a budget of $111,613, about $9,000 above 2008's figure.  The weekly offering needed will increase from $1,972 to $2,146.

Our monthly mortgage payments are $1,100.  We agreed to divide this between budgeted and designated giving.  $6,000 of the increase in the 2009 budget ($500 per month) is for payments on the mortgage.  An additional $7,200 in designated giving ($600 per month) is needed to stay current.  Quarterly offerings will be received for this purpose but gifts designated "Building" may be made at any time.

Copies of the complete financial report and budget are available below the mailboxes.

SERMON SUGGESTIONS - Is there a subject or Bible passage that you would like to hear addressed in a sermon?  David Orr will be preaching a series of topical messages and would be happy to receive your requests.
