Christian Peacemaker Delegates Report

Our Christian Peacemaker Team delegation members, Amanda Balzer (Colombia) and Hannah Breckbill (Palestine) reported in Lincoln churches, universities, and schools during the week of September 7-14. 

“The Israeli Army closed the road to Hebron to cars. We had to go through their roadblock on foot and walk several miles with all of our stuff. An hour earlier a Palestinian woman had given birth at the roadblock because they wouldn't let her out to go to the hospital. She had Israeli soldiers as midwives!"

“Globalization and free trade agreements have been generating economic crises all over the world as small-scale farmers, miners and merchants are pushed out by big business. In Colombia, the people have responded by organizing and mobilizing to push for fair wages and laws that allow them to compete. As a result, small-scale miners, farmers, and union workers have been threatened, detained, injured, and even killed.”
