January 10, 2007
In anticipation of President Bush's announcement later in the evening
that he is ordering 21,000 more troops to Iraq almost 90 people came
out for the weekly peace vigil at the Federal Building on January 10th
in a pre-emptive strike to say "No!" to the escalation of the conflict.
Four TV stations covered the Wednesday protest, channels 10/11, 7, 8 and Fox 42. Two of them did it live from their satellite trucks. Radio stations KUCV and KFOR did pieces on the peace action. The surge continued the next evening with another strong turnout at a second protest at the Federal Building. Demonstrators spread out all along O Street between 15th and 16th. The response from passersby was even more noisily supportive than the usual chorus of honks, peace fingers and thumbs up.
