“Women
and Islam” was the topic of a presentation by Pakistani attorney

October 28, at Northeast United Church of Christ, 6200 Adams St.
Ms. Ali, a Fulbright Scholar, who has worked for Pakistani women’s rights for 25 years says, “There is a sense of frustration that so much more is achievable and the pace of change is not fast enough.” At the same time she cautions, “There are tenets of Islam, relating to women, which have been grossly misrepresented, even by Muslim media,”
After a brief presentation, Ms. Ali answered questions from the audience.
Shamsa Ali is the author of The Quranic Society: A Treatise on Women’s Rights. She has made a verse-by-verse study of the Quran, identifying the rights of women that it sets forth. Her presentation is sponsored by Clergy Peacemakers, a Lincoln interfaith clergy group committed to peacemaking.
