Report on Relief Kits for Iraqi Families

Thank you for participating in the effort to send relief kits to Iraq!

Recipient.JPGWe received a huge amount of towels, soap, toothbrushes, and other personal care. $1,200 in cash was also contributed which enabled us to buy 500 pounds of laundry detergent and other items needed to complete the kits.

A total of 90 relief kits were assembled for displaced families in Iraq. These have been shipped to Mennonite Central Committee where they will be prepared for container shipment overseas. The generous cash contributions enabled us to also send a donation of $418, which will more than cover expected overseas shipping and distribution expenses. People’s City Mission gratefully accepted several large boxes of donated personal care items that did not match the requirements of the relief kits.

The estimated value of the material and cash donation is $4,500. While the its cannot heal the chaos people are facing in Iraq, they will be a small blessing to the families who receive them and a sign of goodwill for toward those in crisis.

This project was made possible by many individuals across Lincoln and the following participating organizations:

Ten Thousand Villages served as a collection center and the manager, Cindy Lahey, and her staff and volunteers did a great job promoting the project and receiving donations.

Warm thanks to everyone who worked to make this campaign a success!
