Those who say student anti-war activism is dead may be in for a surprise. That was the impression at noon on Wednesday, January 23, when 75 Nebraska Wesleyan students gathered for a sit in and anti-war protest on the east side of the Old Main Building on the NWU campus. The students, some of whom were participating in their first peace event, expressed their opposition to the war and the administration's
proposed "surge" in troop levels. The event, organized by students Jacob Hoy-Elswick and Jill Francke, also attracted participants from the NWU faculty and members of the wider community.
Francke and Hoy-Elswick designed the event to protest the war and to encourage students to participate in this Saturday's 10:00 a.m."Bring the Troops Home" rally and march at the State Capitol Building. "Students have a big stake in bringing the troops home," said Hoy-Elswick, “We have friends and family over there. We’re paying for it. We need to step up and make a change. We don’t want to raise our children in this culture of violence.”
