Clergy Peacemakers Group Covenant
Purpose
With gratitude for the call to be peacemakers in our community and world, and in recognition of the challenges this calling presents to congregational ministry, the mission of the Clergy Peacemakers Covenant Group is to provide each member with:
- Collegial support for the ministry of peacemaking.
- Affirmation and mutual acceptance of gifts for this ministry.
- A place where community peace events can be promoted and planned.
- A source for theological and social reflection on peacemaking issues.
Design
Meetings
Meetings will be held monthly from noon to 1:30 PM. Location will alternate between the member congregations on a monthly basis. Members will provide for their own lunch and beverage.
Leadership
- Meeting Facilitator: Host clergy will facilitate the meeting.
- Convener: One member will serve as the “Group Convener” and will send out e-mail notifications of meeting time and location, and other important notices.
Agenda
- Lunch and Fellowship
- Sharing of Joys and Concerns around the calling and challenges of be Peacemakers
- Sharing of Community peace events and/or the development of peace event plans.
- Discussion of a mutually agreed upon topic.
Boundaries for Group Participation
- The group shall be interfaith, comprised of clergy women and men who are actively serving congregations in pulpit ministry and/or dioceses in or around Lincoln, Nebraska.
- All additional members who do not meet the above criteria shall be invited by consensus of the group.
- The group will covenant with each other to keep confidentiality when requested.
- In order to be supportive of each other, members will covenant with each other to be regular participants in the group.
- Recognizing our fallibility, in humility we agree to communicate gently and directly with covenant group members with whom we may feel tension.
- Once a year the group shall review and renew the covenant.
Covenant
By attending this group, we accept and affirm the purpose, design and boundaries of this Clergy Peacemakers Covenant Group and pledge ourselves to faithful attendance and thoughtful participation. May God bless our group and our efforts to honor our calling to be peacemakers.
